Black Doll Exhibit
on loan from the National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture
March 1-16, 2025
From March 1 through 16, 2025, the National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture will present a display at Linden Place from part of its 7,000 piece collection which spans the timeline of American history.
Parts of the exhibit will reflect the journey of enslaved people from different tribes in Africa, how they were brought into the Americas, and how many of them were artisans who brought skills with them. Many of the other dolls will be illustrative of the 200 year timeline of the mansion. From stories centered on African wrap dolls to Black cloth and paper dolls, to dolls that evoke weddings, transportation workers, and artists, the display teaches about place, purpose, and cultural impact.
The exhibit is included with the purchase of a ticket to tour the mansion. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online, though large groups (10 and above) are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by calling 401-253-0390.
The exhibit and mansion will be open the following hours during the exhibit:
Saturdays and Sundays March 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16: 12 noon to 4 pm
Tuesdays through Fridays March 3–14: 10 am to 4 pm
Linden Place Members and active duty and retired military are always admitted to the museum free of charge.
We are grateful for our continued partnership with the National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture and appreciate their generosity in allowing us to display a small portion of their collection at Linden Place.
